Green Top farm and projects distroyed by fire

HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS AND RELIEF UGANDA (HEAR UGANDA) with UMYA and its other partners would like to sound good news of the rainy season which started last Friday 17th February 2012. Under the GREEN TOP project, HEAR UGANDA and its partner plus sister organisations and stakeholders would like to remind tree, food and other categories of farmers to positively utilize this season to increase both food and environment space to be able to positively contribute to restoring the Environment yet fighting hunger and malnutrition on the other hand..
O n a sad note, HEAR UGANDA would like to regret the fire that gutted its GREEN TOP farms at Kanyale, Busunju, Mukono and other places between 1st January and 15th February 2012. This has visited the organisation and our partners millions of shillings (see photos attached) lost in burnt down areas.
Usually tree farms are found in or near cattle corridors, and hence during dry seasons, cattle keepers tend to start up wild fires with an aim of having fresh and better pasture when rain comes around. It is such fire that grows wild  gutting other people’s farms and homes.

Mr. Muguluma Hamed, the executive Director of HEAR UGANDA has today announced plans to sensitize communities to avoid starting bush fires for any reason as such fires are not only a threat both to the environment, where a lot of poisonous gas is emitted, but a source of death to plants (as seen above), animals, people, insects, to mention but these.

The above campaign code named, STOP WILD FIRES, PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT shall see HEAR UGANDA using the media and other available means to reach the grass root communities not only for this issue but other related activities like food security, etc
