Mao should organise new elections for DP as soon as possible

Uganda lacks role models as far as politics is concerned. Politicians in Uganda are liars, vague. Yet, people are eagerly waiting for leaders who are different from those in the National Robbery Movement (NRM).

Norbert Mao is a lawyer and he knew the required procedure for organizing the DP Delegates’ conference. But Mao kept quiet as Sebaana Kizito abused the entire process. Good enough, much as the procedures were not followed, Mao won the Mbale elections. If Sebagala had won, DP would be no more and I do not know what Mao and Sebaana would be telling Ugandans today.

I agree that this mistake was not done by Mao. But he was close to Sebaana and he should have advised him.

Right now, Mao must exercise leadership by accepting that mistakes were made. From there, he should appoint a committee which will work towards reconciling the aggrieved party members. But when Mao decides to defend Sebaana's mistakes, it shows that he is not different from him. It also shows that he can easily do the same mistakes. And I pray that Mao isn't defending Sebaana's illegal acts.

I have been battling with some of them on this forum and in the process,  I have managed to identify some of the reasons as to why our have politicians  lack the spirit of patriotism.

If a leader gets feedback from the people, he should in all honesty accept that a mistake has been done and he should reassure the public that things are going to be done differently. This is what our politicians’ back home lack. They would rather live in denial, twist things, and manipulate the situation instead of taking responsibility.

For voters or party supporters to believe in their leaders, politicians, through their actions, must work towards promote faith, trust, certainty and confidence so that hope in the oppressed people of Uganda can be engendered. But our politicians have chosen to be manipulative and as a result, they have provoked doubt, skepticism, distrust, uncertainty and cynicism. Partly, this can be blamed on NRM as the worsened negative role models who go around bribing those who are on the side of the poor and oppressed. It can also be blamed on our education system which doesn't teach critical reflection and critical thinking skills.

Mao must accept that past leaders most especially John Sebaana Kizito made mistakes. Then, he should encourage those affected to pull themselves together and take the party forward. Short of that, DP will be binned.
