United Democratic Ugandans (UDU).
1. Participation and establishment of a new umbrella organization
By popular demand at home and abroad an umbrella organization named “United Democratic Ugandans (UDU)” was established on July 9, 2011 at a conference hosted by Ugandans to the Rescue in Los Angeles, California, USA. The purpose of the organization is to harmonize activities of opposition groups and individuals opposed to the illegitimate NRM regime and speak with one voice. The conference was attended by organizations and individuals who came from Europe, Canada, and the United States. Those who were unable to attend were represented at the conference. Participants came from all regions of Uganda (northern, eastern, central and western).
2) Agenda of the conference was to:
a) Create a new umbrella organization
b) Adopt a name for the organization
c) Elect committee members
d) Adopt a work plan.
3. The creation of the new organization was adopted by acclamation.
4. Many proposals were submitted for the name of the organization and voting took place. United Democratic Ugandans (UDU) got the highest votes and was therefore adopted.
5. The delegations nominated candidates for the interim committee. All eight nominees were elected by acclamation. They are:
1. Eric Kashambuzi
2. Dorothy Lubowa
3. Joseph Magandazi
4. John Mayanja
5. Ismael Mulondo
6. Mubiru Musoke
7. Emmanuel L. Muwonge
8. Fred Ssali
6. Election of office bearers:
The committee elected the following office bearers:
Mubiru Musoke, Chairman.
Eric Kashambuzi, Secretary-General
Ismael Mulondo, Resource Mobiliser
7. Adoption of work plan:
The delegations adopted the following work plan to be completed within
three months.
1. Registration of the organization
2. Drafting the organization’s constitution
3. Membership drive at home and abroad
4. Drafting a manifesto
8. Date and venue of next conference
The delegations decided that the next conference should take place on October 8, 2011 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
